THE CHANGES IN AUSTRALIA’S OCCUPATION LIST
Australia has announced updates to their occupation list. The Australian Department of Home Affairs states that the new skilled occupation list ensures that the entry of skilled foreign workers to Australia remains carefully calibrated to Australia’s needs.
According to the Australian Department of Jobs and Small Business website, Australia’s employer-sponsored, points-tested and state nominated visa programs are underpinned by three lists:
1. the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL)
2. the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL)
3. the Regional Occupation List (ROL)
Added to the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) are 36 new occupations, as seen below:

• Biotechnologist
• Botanist
• Chemist
• Conservator
• Dancer or Choreographer
• Economist
• Engineering Professionals
• Environmental Consultant
